If you’ve accepted a travel nurse job or travel allied health job with Nomad Health, the next step in the process is credentialing. Credentials are used to verify your qualifications, experience, and expertise as a traveler. All healthcare facilities require verification of credentials to ensure the highest level of professional and patient safety standards are met. This process can sometimes be daunting, but we’ve worked hard to make it as easy as possible for our travelers.

How credentialing works at nomad health

Once you enter the credentialing phase, you’ll be assigned a Credentialing Navigator who will be your point of contact for all related matters until this phase is complete. They’ll contact you directly via phone and email shortly after you accept an offer. If you have any issues uploading documents, you can send them directly to your Credentialing Navigator.

Required documents for credentialing

Having your documents prepared can speed up the credentialing process. Document requirements can vary based on facility; however, the following items are asked for by most facilities:

Health records

Physical

Must be a physical from within the last year

PPD or IGRA

Must have a negative result within the last year. If positive, must have a chest x-ray within the last two years of your start date, proof of positive result, and a TB questionnaire that’s updated annually

MMR

Two vaccine series or positive titer

TDaP

Vaccine must be within the last 10 years

Varicella

Vaccine series or positive titer

Flu

Vaccine during flu season, or declination (may not be accepted by all units)

Hep B

Three vaccine series, titer, or declination (may not be accepted by all units)

COVID-19

Vaccine requirements will vary by facility

Drug testing and occupational health items

You’ll be required to complete a drug screen and fulfill other occupational health items relevant to your upcoming assignment. Your Credentialing Navigator will work with you to locate a third-party vendor near you to complete your requirements. If you have any issues, let your Credentialing Navigator know.

Competency testing

Competency testing is used to assess clinical skills and knowledge specific to the setting that the clinician will be working in; testing requirements will be sent shortly after accepting an offer. These requirements may vary depending on your discipline and specialty:

  • Core Mandatory Exams
  • Unit-Specific Competency Exams
  • Additional Competency Exams (i.e. Pharmacology, Color Vision exams, Dysrhythmia)

How to update your credentials

You can update your credentials at any time using the Nomad Health app. To do so, login to your Nomad account and view your Profile. From here, navigate to credentials. In this section, you can update your credentials and upload supporting documentation, including any certifications, licenses, and additional skills you may have.

What's next?

Once you’ve submitted all required credentials, Nomad’s Credentialing team will review them and submit them to the facility for approval. If any of your credentials are declined, we’ll notify you so that you can upload new documents to fulfill the requirements.

If you have additional questions, reach out to your Credentialing Navigator through the Message Center in your Nomad Profile or directly through their email.
