The journey to becoming a Cath Lab travel nurse generally begins with obtaining a BSN or ADN and passing the NCLEX-RN to become a Registered Nurse. Most nurses build their foundation in high-intensity settings like the ICU or ER before specializing in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab.
Once in the Cath Lab, you will develop critical competencies in sterile technique, radiation safety, and intra-procedural patient management. To be eligible for travel contracts, facilities typically require 12 to 24 months of recent experience in the specialty. Strengthening your resume with certifications such as the Cardiac Vascular Nursing Certification (CV-BC) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) can make you an even more competitive candidate.
