St. Elias is located in the heart of Anchorage Alaska, but we have welcomed patients from all over the United States. St. Elias is the first and only LTCH in the state. The terms “Long Term Acute Care Hospital” (LTACH) and “Long Term Care Hospital” ( LTCH) refer to the same type of hospital. The acronyms are used interchangeably. Both terms distinguish us from a traditional acute care hospital. LTCH’s are not intended to be a permanent placement. Our goal is to help the patient reach his/her highest level of wellness possible and move along the healthcare continuum. For many LTCH patients, this means home.
