The idea for Mammoth Hospital was put into motion in 1978 by a group of local Mammoth residents who, due to the growing population of the town, took it upon themselves to raise money for a hospital in Mammoth Lakes. Mammoth Hospital is now a vibrant institution celebrating its 40th year anniversary. In 2007, Mammoth Hospital opened its 38,000 square-foot expansion that houses a new Emergency Department, new surgery center, fully digital Medical Imaging Department, and a new three-bed Birthing Center. The hospital now stands as a tribute to what a small community can attain in quality health care service through sound local guidance.
