Candidate Requirements Pennsylvania Candidates must be board certified/eligible. In-person interview Job Description: Responsible for organizing and directing the Department of Surgery and the Grand View Medical Practices surgical service line, including but not limited to Bariatrics, Breast, General, Laparoscopic, Oncological, and Vascular. Work collegially with Administrators, GVH directors and/or managers, GVH peri-operative staff, and physicians to provide administrative, financial, and operational oversight and direction to the Department of Surgery and the surgical suites. This oversight will include working with various departments to oversee budgets, revenue cycle, expenses, strategic planning, business development, marketing, IT system optimization, and quality. As the Chief of Surgery, the candidate will be an integral member of the Medical Executive Committee and report directly to the Chief Medical Officer. The candidate will be accountable for directing and/or providing oversight of all administrative functions within the Department of Surgery. The candidate will provide leadership to and facilitative support of the Department of Surgery. Position Responsibilities: • Provides Surgical Department leadership to achieve strategic priorities, goals, and change initiatives as established by and in conjunction with Executive Management. • Leads the development and implementation of strategic plans for the Department. • Translates goals into actionable business tactics that are aligned with the strategic plans of the department, the GVMP surgical group, and the health system. • Develops appropriate scheduling plan for providers and professional and non-professional staffing plan for the surgical office, in conjunction with GVMP Administration. • Maintains a collaborative relationship with physicians, departmental directors, and administrative leaders regarding operational, marketing, and strategic issues. • Engages physicians in a manner that supports best clinical practices and promotes effective management of clinical and financial resources. • Initiates and fully implements improvements for the department’s regional market share, patient experience, operational efficiency, and patient safety. • Leads the recruitment and retention process for surgical staff. • Ensures that patient issues/complaints are properly resolved as applicable. • Understands and efficiently uses MediTech, making recommendations to optimize workflow, system use and provider satisfaction. • Ensures documentation compliance and monitors the surgeons’ timely completion of charts, consistent with hospital guidelines. • Manages surgical staff including the appropriate and effective use of APPs. • Demonstrates the interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with staff members, patients and their families, physicians, and hospital personnel. • Attends various meetings as directed by the CMO and leads surgical and interdisciplinary meetings/groups as directed by the CMO. • Complies with all Joint Commission, Department of Health, and GVH policies and procedural requirements. Minimum Requirements: Medical degree, PA State licensure, Board Certification in General Surgery at a minimum. MBA, MMM, MHA or related degree preferred but not essential. Minimum five (5) years’ experience in management of day-to-day operations of a surgical department or medical practice. Possess working knowledge of medical practice operations, financial operations, program development and growth, healthcare coding and compliance issues. Extensive experience working in an EMR environment (MediTech experience a plus). Licensure and Certifications: PA State medical license.
