How is Nomad different?
Nomad is a website to find freelance clinical work. We're different because we're the first platform to show you pay rates upfront and let you communicate directly with medical facilities, instead of a third-party recruitment agency or broker. We have job opportunities across multiple specialties and locations in the United States.
What is freelance clinical work?
Freelance clinical work refers to locum tenens and telehealth jobs for all specialties. Locum tenens roles are short-term clinical assignments at hospitals or clinics, and you can learn more about them here. Doctors often take freelance work coming out of residency, or going into retirement.
What are the benefits to doing freelance clinical work?

Physicians take short-term clinical jobs for many reasons, including:

  • Supplemental Income — earn extra, premium income on the side
  • Freedom and Flexibility — work wherever and whenever you want
  • Travel and Experience — learn from different practices across the nation
  • Life Changes — ease your transition into retirement or from residency
  • Aid to Underserved — help those in need in understaffed rural areas
Do I need to make a minimum commitment to Nomad?
Nope. Nomad is all about independence. Work as much or as little as you like.
How do I get paid?
All your payments are directly deposited into your bank account. Everything is electronic and automatic. No paper checks.
What is the average pay?
Pay rates are given for each Nomad job upon login, and are negotiable with medical employers. Generally locum tenens medical professionals can expect to make 30-50% more than a permanent position.
Do I need to get my own malpractice insurance?
Don't worry, we've got you covered! If you're not automatically covered under the hiring facility's insurance, Nomad will provide best-in-class, occurrence-based medical malpractice insurance from Coverys. Specific plan information is always listed on our job postings.
What if I don't have the necessary state license for a job?
Nomad automates all state license applications. If there's enough time before the job starts, we'll get your license for you.
Do I have to pay anything to use this service?
Nomad is completely free for doctors.
Will my profile be visible to the public?
No. We take your privacy very seriously. Only Nomad-verified employers will be able to see your information.
